This second Yellow Boat Project story focuses on a simple truth: literacy cannot flourish when the route to school is unsafe or out of reach. For children in remote Philippine communities, a yellow boat could become a bridge to teachers, classmates, books, and possibility.
Partnership before publicity
Green Mango Books supported the effort by helping bring attention and resources to the initiative. The work was never separate from our identity as booksellers. It was an early expression of the same values that guide our bookstore now: access, curiosity, education, and community.
What we carry forward
Today, Green Mango Books serves readers online across the United States, but our community history still matters. It reminds us to build programs and partnerships around useful outcomes—not appearances—and to keep readers at the center.
