About Us

Independent bookseller since 2014

We were building readers before we built this bookstore online.

Green Mango Books began by showing up: at libraries, in classrooms, at live readings, through community partnerships, and wherever a good book could start a conversation. Today, from Jackson, Mississippi, we bring that same human spirit to readers across the United States.

Our story

A bookstore proved in public.

Before the current national online bookstore, Green Mango Books earned trust face to face. Our history includes bilingual story times, literacy programs, library events, community workshops, school engagement, media appearances, and partnerships designed to put books and useful ideas within reach.

“Books do more than fill shelves. They help people recognize themselves, understand one another, and imagine what comes next.”

The belief behind Green Mango Books, then and now

2014

The work begins

Green Mango Books was already active in community education and library-based programs. The City of Cerritos recognized founder Allan Q. Amit and Green Mango Books for an entrepreneurship workshop held at the Cerritos Library.

2015

Service earns formal recognition

Green Mango Books received the United Chambers of Commerce Small Business Award, along with recognition from Congress, the California Legislature, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

2015–2024

Reading becomes shared experience

Live and multilingual readings, literacy advocacy, library and school engagement, television, and community partnerships carried the mission beyond a traditional bookstore.

2024+

A new publishing and bookselling chapter

Green Mango Books entered publishing with Letters From The Heart: A Family’s Journey of Healing and Hope, then returned as a modern independent online bookstore serving readers nationwide.

Community impact

We did not just talk about literacy. We put it into practice.

Our earlier work met readers where they were and treated reading as something active, social, and open to everyone.

01

Reading Action Program

Programs designed to turn books into participation, conversation, and sustained curiosity.

02

Multilingual readings

English and Tagalog story sessions helped families experience books together while supporting language and cultural connection.

03

Libraries and schools

Public readings, educational programs, and direct engagement brought authors, stories, children, and families into the same room.

04

Community partnerships

Workshops, literacy advocacy, media outreach, and partner-led events expanded what a community-minded bookstore could do.

Community outreach spotlight

Green Mango Books and the Yellow Boat Project

Our collaboration with the Yellow Boat Project was an integral part of Green Mango Books’ early community involvement. The initiative helped children in remote Philippine communities reach school safely by providing yellow boats and educational support.

Green Mango Books helped bring attention and resources to the effort, including boats and school supplies. It reflected what our community outreach has always meant: removing barriers between children and education.
